Ray started his career in the Ohio Army National Guard where he was an MP but transferred to the kitchen. He then went to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. where he graduated with an associate degree, while also working at a New York Bakery.
Following his graduation, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, and began his career working at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel, where he worked his way up to specialty room chef, in charge of the French restaurant. He later worked as a Banquet Chef, cooking for parties of up to 5,000 guests and later opened Las Vegas’ first open kitchen restaurant, Andiamos. He became executive Chef of the Stardust Hotel and also worked as Chef at Caesars Palace, and Chef of the Four Queens Hotel and Binions Hotel Casino. He was also personal Chef for Bill Cosby and Suzann Summers and cooked for many other celebrities and sports stars over the years.
After his time in Las Vegas, he worked in Kansas City for the Hallmark Corp. and worked in gourmet restaurants in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.
Ray is originally from Hubbard, Ohio. Ray and his wife have been married for 39 years and recently lost their only son in 2014.
Ray is very happy that he returned back to Mahoning Valley and truly enjoys cooking for the Residents at the Blackburn Home. “I love to make the seniors smile every day, because they are getting a home cooked meal.”
